The Bills’ medical team, credited with saving Hamlin’s life, will be honored with a Heartsaver Hero Award by the American Heart Association for their quick and effective response during the cardiac arrest. Additionally, a second award will be presented to four community members who performed bystander CPR, showcasing the critical links in the chain of survival.

Fans attending the game are invited to join the American Heart Association’s Nation of Lifesavers™ through an immersive Hands-Only CPR experience. Recognizing the importance of immediate action during cardiac emergencies, the initiative aims to empower bystanders to become lifesavers.

Bills HeartBEAT Initiative

As part of the Bills HeartBEAT initiative, the Buffalo Bills have committed $1 million over five years to train thousands of Western New Yorkers in Hands-Only CPR. The program focuses on community empowerment events to enhance the community’s confidence and ability to perform bystander CPR.

CPR Education for Youth Sports Coaches

In collaboration with the American Heart Association, the Bills are extending CPR education to youth sports coaches. Two hundred CPR & First Aid in Youth Sports™ Training Kits will be distributed in the Western New York community, providing coaches with the necessary tools to impart lifesaving skills, use AEDs, and handle sports-related emergencies.

As Damar Hamlin’s inspiring journey continues, the Buffalo Bills and the American Heart Association are ensuring that his experience serves as a catalyst for increased CPR awareness and education in the community. The collaboration seeks to create a Nation of Lifesavers™ where everyone is equipped to respond effectively in cardiac emergencies, turning bystanders into heroes.
