Mike Gill, who served as chief of staff at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has died from the injuries he sustained in a violent carjacking spree on Monday. The incident occurred at the 900 block of K Street NW.

According to the DC Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect approached the parked vehicle before 6pm on Monday, got inside the car and shot the driver before leaving. Artell Cunningham, a man experiencing a mental health crisis, is said to have fled the scene on foot and tried to carjack another person an hour later but also proved to be unsuccessful. The victim managed to inform the police.

The police said the suspect then approached another man and woman in their car in Northeast DC, demanded the keys before shooting the man, who later died in the hospital. The suspect fled the scene in the car. The 28-year-old attempted two more carjackings and was shot dead in New Carrollton, Maryland.
