The nationwide truck driver protest is now called off. The Union Government assures the All India Truck Members of not implementing the law without prior discussions.

The truck driver protest in India opposing the recently introduced Hit-and-Run Law is called off. Following a meeting between the Union Government and the trucking association, the protest has been withdrawn.

The new law, set to replace the British-era Indian Penal Code, mandates severe punishment for drivers involved in hit-and-run cases on roads.

Earlier, the accused could be jailed for only 2 years maximum under Section 304A of IPC. However, the new law passed by Bhartiya Nyaya Sahinta stipulates up to ten years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 7 Lakhs.

Impact Of Truck Driver Protest

The news of this new law led to widespread truck driver protests across the whole nation. Highways in states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana were blocked completely.

More than 2000 fuel stations ran out of fuel, leading to a chaotic situation. The food and supply chain industry was severely impacted by highway blockages.

Thus, the impact of the protest was significant, causing fuel shortages, disruptions in supply chains, and inconvenience to the public.

Final Words On The Protest

Looking at the sensitivity of the situation, the union government had to intervene.

With the assurance of dialogue and the government’s commitment to consider the concerns of the trucking community, the situation is normalized. The truckers have now resumed their duties.
