With the debut of a new website on Valentine’s Day, which also happens to be Lara Croft’s birthday, Tomb Raider fans have something really exciting to look forward to. Crystal Dynamics is the renowned developer behind the classic franchise. This website teases a “unified” action heroine design that combines her traditional and contemporary looks, providing a fascinating look at what lies ahead for the series.

A Unified Design: Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future

With her signature tank top and shorts and twin pistols in hand, Lara’s post-Survivor trilogy appearance in the new artwork honours her original design. Her more recent use of a bow and arrow, which became a mainstay of her armoury in the reboot trilogy, is symbolized by this change in style.

This much awaited announcement follows Will Kerslake, the franchise director of Tomb Raider, declaring in 2021 that Crystal Dynamics envisioned a Tomb Raider universe that developed beyond the prequel trilogy and the original Core Design games. The crew is putting a lot of effort into bringing these timeframes together so that Lara Croft may have a fascinating story. On the Tomb Raider website, fans can solve a straightforward glyph puzzle to gain access to the new Lara artwork. The jade pendant necklace that Lara wore during her first archaeological dig in the Survivor games is a key component of the artwork, suggesting that this is, in fact, a post-Shadow of the Tomb Raider Lara.

    A New Lara Croft Emerges

Compared to her portrayal in the reboot trilogy, this new Lara Croft seems a little older and more experienced, suggesting that exciting new adventures are ahead of her. Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s ending alluded to Lara’s return to Egypt and a confrontation with a Tyrannosaurus Rex, echoing her previous adventures in the first Tomb Raider video game.

With the jade pendant around her neck, Lara keeps a crucial component from her contemporary trilogy even though her weapons have changed. Introduced in the 2013 reboot, this artefact is very emotive because it was the first object Lara found on an archaeological excavation when she was a young girl. Its incorporation within her design has come to represent her development and journey throughout the course of the series.

    Lara Croft’s Multimedia Expansion

Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that the new Tomb Raider game is currently in development, with Amazon Games set to publish. The game will be developed using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5, promising a visually stunning and immersive experience. This new installment will merge the timelines of Lara’s Survivor era and the Core Design-developed games, offering fans a seamless and captivating narrative that spans the entirety of Lara’s adventures.

Fans can also anticipate a Tomb Raider animated series on Netflix, which will include the amazing Hayley Atwell as Lara’s voice in a narrative that takes place after the Survivor era, in addition to the new game. Furthermore, a live-action series is being developed at Amazon under the direction of renowned writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who has previously worked on “Fleabag” and the upcoming “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”

Fans can celebrate Lara Croft’s enduring history and excitedly await her next exciting adventure as they wait for more information about the forthcoming Tomb Raider game and the fascinating animation and live-action series.

    Celebrating Lara Croft’s Enduring Legacy

The fact that this unified Lara Croft design is the product of years of expectation heightens the sense of excitement. As Lara’s depth and complexity increased throughout the Survivor trilogy, fans have been guessing and hoping for a return to Lara’s classic roots. This design’s unique blend of old and modern represents a tribute to the past while welcoming the franchise’s future, offering both new and seasoned fans a novel and captivating experience.

Almost thirty years after the start of the franchise, Lara Croft never fails to enthrall viewers with her bold antics and recognizable flair. With Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games working together to create an amazing gaming experience, Tomb Raider’s future is quite bright.
