Dead Island 2 Dropped On Xbox Game Pass
Dead Island 2, the long-awaited zombie action game, has finally been released on Xbox Game Pass after 12 years of development and multiple delays.
“With the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate version, you’ll have unlimited access to the base game on Xbox, including co-op functionality. So, there’s no need to go it alone – gather your squad and take on the horde together in thrilling co-op action!” says a blog post on the game’s official website.
The surprise addition of Dead Island 2 to Xbox Game Pass follows a free weekend of access to the game via Xbox’s “Free Play Days” promotion last week. The game is available for Xbox consoles and PCs and can be streamed via Xbox Cloud Gaming. The game’s PC version, however, was not added to Game Pass for PC.
From Development Hell to Xbox Game Pass
However, Dead Island 2’s journey to Xbox Game Pass wasn’t always smooth sailing. The game was originally announced in 2014 and has suffered from multiple delays and changes in development teams. It was first scheduled to be released in 2015 by German studio Yager. However, the studio opted out of the project due to creative differences with publisher Deep Silver. The project was then handed over to British developer Sumo Digital, who reportedly built the game from scratch. Finally, after 12 years, the game was released in April 2023.
This zombie game was then delayed again from its original release date of April 28th to April 21st, 2023. The game spent over a decade in development hell, passing through multiple developers before finding its home at UK-based studio Dambuster in 2019 after numerous delays and restarts.
