Danny Masterson, an American actor and DJ, was recently transferred to San Luis Obispo State Prison after being sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for raping two women.

Here’s everything you need to know about him.

Danny Masterson Transferred to San Luis Obispo State Prison

Masterson was accused of sexual assault by multiple women in 2017, which prompted an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department. In May 2023, Masterson was found guilty on two of the three charges of rape, each carrying a potential 15-year prison sentence.

Masterson received a sentence of 30 years to life in prison on September 7, 2023, from Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo at the Los Angeles Superior Court. The judge considered statements from the women detailing the long-term effects of Masterson’s actions on their lives.

One of the accusers, identified as N. Trout, expressed during a courtroom reading on Thursday, “When you raped me, you stole from me. That is what rape is, a theft of the spirit.” Following the sentencing, Masterson’s defence lawyer, Shawn Holley, expressed her disappointment to reporters outside the courtroom, mentioning that a legal team had identified significant evidential and constitutional issues for future appeals.

The accusers of Masterson recounted being assaulted at his Hollywood Hills residence in the early 2000s after being given alcohol. Being a Scientologist, Masterson was linked to his victim’s testimonies during trial proceedings regarding his church connections and their role in his offenses. Despite this narrative, the church has refuted any involvement in the case.

However, the That ’70s Show star, who is currently serving a 30-year to life sentence for assaulting two women in 2003, has been moved from Corcoran State Prison in Central California, previously inhabited by cult figure Charles Manson. To a men’s minimum security center within the state due to safety worries.

Masterson’s personal life revolves around his dedication to the Church of Scientology. He started dating fellow Scientologist Bijou Phillips in 2004 and married in 2011. They have one daughter, who was born in February 2014. Phillips filed for divorce in September 2023, citing irreconcilable differences and requesting full legal and physical custody of their child, as well as spousal support.

Final Words

Initially housed at North Kern State Prison, Masterson is now transferred to the California Men’s Colony (CMC) in San Luis Obispo. He was convicted of raping two women.

The transfer is, however, not the result of an attack or credible threat but rather a decision related to the inmate’s well-being and safety concerns. Masterson’s legal troubles also extend to a civil case, where he and the Church of Scientology are co-defendants.

His legal team has announced plans to appeal the conviction. Despite this, Masterson remains incarcerated and is not eligible for parole until 2042.
