Post-Black Friday Momentum Continues
As the dust settles from the whirlwind of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, Paul Zahra, a retail expert, anticipates a similar shopper enthusiasm for Boxing Day sales. He notes that after the season of gifting, consumers are now ready to treat themselves and fulfill household needs in these upcoming sales.

A Season of Steady Sales
The festive season, spanning from November to Christmas Eve, is looking bright with a projected 1% increase in sales, estimated to reach $67.4 billion, with food purchases alone accounting for $27 billion. This data, gathered by Roy Morgan, suggests a healthy appetite for holiday spending.

Shopper Caution Amidst Sale Frenzy
Despite the excitement, Chris Jager, a shopping specialist from Finder, warns of potential shopper fatigue post-Black Friday and Cyber Monday. He cautions against overspending, reminding us that a sale is not always a mandate to buy. Supporting this, a Finder survey reveals that one in three Australians plans to join in on Boxing Day sales, expecting to spend an average of $356 per person, summing up to a substantial $2.3 billion.

E-commerce Trends and Consumer Rights
Post-Christmas, the e-commerce platform Shippit is bracing for a slight dip in sales but still expects a significant $150 million in transactions, indicating a continued interest in holiday deals. Meanwhile, consumer advocacy group Choice, led by Rosie Thomas, advises shoppers on their rights and the importance of being aware of purchase quality during the sales.

Boxing Day: A Tradition of Giving
Boxing Day, celebrated on December 26, has its roots in the UK and is widely observed in Commonwealth nations like Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Traditionally, it involved giving “Christmas Boxes” filled with gifts, money, or food to employees and helpers as a token of appreciation for their year-long service. This year, as shoppers embark on their Boxing Day adventures, the spirit of generosity and goodwill remains at the heart of the celebration.
